Julia with cowWhatever the animal, when it is sick, the animal’s body reacts to injury and disease by producing various symptoms. These symptoms represent the animal’s attempt to heal itself and throw off the disease. Effective homeopathy for animals does not suppress these symptoms but stimulates the natural healing processes to overcome the problem.

Most conditions in animals can be successfully treated using homeopathy. Improvement can be very quick in acute conditions such as vomiting, diarrhoea, pains, injuries, wounds, and trauma (both physical and emotional).

Individual pets can be treated or groups of livestock may also be treated homeopathically.

More chronic animal health conditions may take longer to recover but may respond to homeopathy where conventional medicine has failed.  Such conditions include:

  • Skin problems
  • Arthritis and Lameness
  • Cystitis
  • Digestive upsets
  • Immune disorders
  • Dietary problems
  • Infertility
  • Eye and ear problems
  • Kidney disorders
  • Allergies
  • Chest and heart disorders
  • Behavioral problems
  • and other problems including diabetes, epilepsy, thyroid problems and Cushing’s disease

For homeopathic treatment, more information about the animal is required than in a normal veterinary consultation. All the symptoms, both behavioural and physical, need to be identified along with information on what makes these symptoms better or worse.

As animals may react differently when suffering from the same condition, different homeopathic medicines may be required. The treatment is individualised rather than treating the sickness itself.

One of the benefits of homeopathy is that it does not have the potentially harmful side effects of some drugs.

How Healthy is Your Pet?

Image of dogOften people feel that if their pet is not actually sick, that they are “healthy.” But health is more that just the absence of symptoms. There are many levels of health, and most dogs and cats could be a lot healthier. The essence of alternative medicine is to strive for the highest level of health. There are many factors influencing an animal’s health: diet, vaccination, exposure to toxins, drugs, & infectious agents, exercise, emotional factors, and many others. For many of the animals I see, a poor quality diet is a factor reducing vitality and contributing to health problems.

Commercial pet foods, whether dry, canned, or soft-moist, are highly processed convenience foods that carry a high price in terms of nutritional quality. Nearly all of them use inexpensive, poor quality protein sources such as diseased meat and organs condemned for human consumption. Most are laced with preservatives and food colouring. Canned foods have high levels of lead, dry foods have rancid fat, and soft-moist foods contain up to 25% sugar. Even the best commercial pet foods are highly processed and thoroughly cooked, so that there are no fresh or raw foods in the diet. As a qualified nutritionist I can also recommend easily achievable and reasonably costing homemade alternatives.
